I actually saw my first 10 amp breaker last Friday in a 1945 partially rewired home. As you can’t go smaller than 14 awg for branch circuits I guess there is a right answer…sort of.

I submit that the order does, indeed, matter. If there was a 10 amp breaker involved, then #14 would be fine.

Reversed order of answer is incorrect, IMO, as the question gets read in sequece, so the answer needs to follow that same sequence...

Or someone transposed the order when typing the question.

Of course the 10 amp breaker could be used for any wire size listed.

But then again the code would allow all of the following combinations also.

40 amp breaker with 14 AWG

30 amp breaker with 12 AWG

20 amp breaker with 10 AWG

10 amp breaker with 8 AWG.

Looks like I failed the test my answer is/was C.

My point here is not to confuse, it is to point out there are few 'absolute' answers in regards to the code.

I have written some electrical tests, it is very difficult to ask a question that has one answer.

Bob, true, but the answer we were looking for was “B” and “for a change” icon_smile.gif Joe Farsetta got the explanation correct in the wiring sequence.
