I’m new at this and I am not clear on how to determine the total number of amps, when looking at a service panel. I know it is usually either 100, 150, or 200, but I’m not sur how to know for sure. HELP!!!
Hi Steve,
The available service amperage is determinded by the lowest rated of the following components:
- Service entrance conductors
- Electrical meter & base
- Main disconnect
- Electrical service panel rating.
For example, you may have 150 amp service connectors, 200 amp meter, 100 amp main disconnect and a pannel rated for a maxiumum of 200 amps. The supply in this case would be limited to 100 amps by the main disconnect.
Regards
Gerry
Thanks Gerry I remember reading that now, I was having a senior moment!
