Question of the Week-starting 5/24/15

What is the 2012 IRC code maximum guard spacing for deck stair (tread) sides with a total rise of 30” or more in height and what is the maximum distance between stair posts??

There are 2 parts to the question. All parts of the question must be answered in one post.

To all: Please do not edit your posts as the Awards Committee can see that time stamp in the edited post…it just makes our sorting it out more cumbersome.

This is how it works: http://www.nachi.org/forum/f25/question-week-starting-5-24-15-a-101624/f25/new-a...n-week-100380/

There is no maximum spaces for them, cant find any. If i a alliwed to anser again.

4 3/8 inches, and do you mean nuel-post?

4" and 6’

Yes, you can answer again.

It is simply called a post in the afore mentioned code, that I see.

Maximum distance between post is 72" on center.

4 3/8 inches then 72 inches

Guard spacing less than 4" and post maximum of 72"

Does anyone have any insight why they decided to allow the extra 3/8"?
