Hellooo & Welcome to another round of Questions of The Week!**
Please read the Introduction and requirements, changes may have been made.
A member of the Awards Committee will post questions, at a random day/time.
Eligible members may make one post per question thread to answer the questions, and the eligible member’s winning entry must have all parts of the questions answered completely in that one post. Editing your one answer post allowed will result in disqualification.
Any disregard to the above and divulging the correct answers or giving hints/references will cause a disqualification.
First correct answers (as judged by the Awards Committee or Poster of the Questions) wins.
Request your choice by emailing fastreply@nachi.org and submit your Mailing address for shipping.
Choose your prize from the following list!:
** $50.00 gift certificate from Inspector Outlet
** Case of books "Now That You’ve had A Home Inspection"
** Seventeen Custom Branded Videos value $50.00 ~ your choice! https://certifiedmasterinspector.org/video-contest

4) The International Residential Code requires cleanouts for drain pipes to be established at intervals throughout the drain system. What is the maximum allowable distance between cleanouts?
a) 50 feet horizontally
b) 75 feet horizontally
c) 100 feet horizontally
d) 120 feet horizontally
e) I really don’t care
OK fine Jake!
On 1-4 you both got 1 incorrect.
Keep in mind the question words, don’t read into it. #5 I sorta guess is correct. Besides the wires (commonly seen), describe what is that.
Haha, I live in Alaska, this A/C unit which people speak of is completely foreign to me. Unless I do commercial, which I don’t (yet), I can only think of so many things.
A
Types of compressors include Positive displacement and Dynamic.
b) c) d) are types of Positive displacement compressors
e) is a type of Dynamic compressor
D
Water and air are commonly used to test a DWV system for leaks. Smoke can be used as well.
C is the closest answer
The Second Law of Thermodynamics is concerned with Entropy. It deals with the direction of natural processes and asserts that a natural process runs only in one sense and is not reversible. The rule that Heat always flows from hot to cold is an example that was known long before the second law of Thermodynamics was discovered. It is one of the consequences of the 2nd law, and is not the law in itself.
C
IPC - 708.3.1 Horizontal drains within buildings.
All horizontal drains shall be provided with cleanouts located not more than 100 feet (30.48 m) apart.
The condensate pump appears to have an exposed wire splice from the safety switch (common) and it is not mounted properly according to manufacturer instructions. The power cord is on the floor or bottom of the pan (hard to tell in the picture)
Song Lyrics:
The line is in the song Come Dancing by THE KINKS
“It always ended up in a big row
When my sister used to get home late
Out of my window I can see them in the moonlight
Two silhouettes saying goodnight by the garden gate”
Question 2 asked for suitable, not common usage, so smoke counts.
That darn cond pump!
In my book there is no deficiency.
The exposed wires are low voltage, the power cord was a plug in type & they are like this most of the time. But hey it’s OK to be picky.
I’m very happy you got the music! Wasn’t an easy one.
JAKE! THANKS for being here. You were so close & then evil Bert showed up… …

2) Which of the following is suitable for testing a DWV system for leaks?
a) Smoke
b) Water
c) air
d)All of the above
d All of the above
It is common for modern DWV systems to be tested with air. In the old days water was the most common means of testing. When there is a leak that cannot be found easily, smoke can be used to expose the leak location. Smoke is not used as a primary test method. Air is the test medium of choice. The testing of a DWV system is to be conducted for a minimum of 15 minutes. The minimum test pressure is required to be 10 pounds per square inch (PSI). If only underground plumbing is being tested there must be one riser that is at least ten feet above the main plumbing system https://www.tests.com/practice/plumbing-practice-test

5) Describe, any deficiencies observed?
The condensate pump’s high-water safety switch connects in series with the air handler’s thermostat circuitry. The connection method depends on the model. Follow the thin-gauge two-strand wire set exiting the air handler toward the condensate pump. Some models use exposed wire nuts, while others need the condensate pump’s electrical compartment opened to access the connections

Love those 14" crash symbols!
WHO DID DAT TUNE??

Great job @bhull1! @mgoldenberg I wanted to change my answer to #2 From the beginning but rules are rules. Great job again @bhull1! Stealing the win day in and day out haha.
