HOWDY & Welcome to another round of Questions of The Week!
A member of the Awards Committee will post questions, at a random day/time.
Eligible members may make one post per question thread to answer the questions.
First correct answers (as judged by the Awards Committee or Poster of the Questions) wins.
Request your choice by emailing fastreply@nachi.org and submit your Mailing address for shipping
Choose your prize from the following list!:
>$50.00 gift certificate from Inspector Outlet >Case of books “Now That You’ve had A Home Inspection” >A free visit to NYC Times Square to experience the thrill that comes with being mugged at the subway entrance!
>This week is sorta like the “Masked Singer”… … … … … … … The following questions are from our members! For extra credit, please try to guess WHAT MEMBER submitted the question!
The Cranky Italian wants to know:
What event is most likely to cause arc flash?
A. a lightning strike near a utility transformer
B. a short circuit in a utility transformer
C. metal touching an energized conductor
D. a short circuit in a branch circuit

2) The Rabid Moose wants to know:
A good rule of thumb is to set your ladder at a
a) 55-degree angle
b) 65-degree angle
c) 75-degree angle
d) 85-degree angle
~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ 3) Capo De Tidcapi wants to know:
You are inspecting a pool home that has a built-in spa. The spa is raised above the pool. You notice that when the filtration equipment is shutdown the spa begins to drain back into the pool until the water level in both vessels equalizes.
Is this most likely caused by:
a) The water level is too low
b) The pool pump is defective
c) The check valve is defective
d) The self-fill mechanism is leaking
e) The air lock vibration unit failed

4) The Rogue wants to know:
In a TT electrical system, the neutral and ground should be bonded:
a) Every service panel
b) Main panel only
c) At the external Transformer
d) They should not be bonded

5) The Spicy Taco Kidd wants to know:
Which statement is correct concerning a panel rated for 100 amp service:
a) Combined amperage of the branch circuit breaker ratings must not exceed 125 amps
b) Combined amperage of the branch circuit breaker ratings must not exceed 150 amps
c) Combined amperage of the branch circuit breaker ratings may exceed 200 amps
d) None of these answers are correct because the panel is only rated for 100 amp. service
~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ The Famous Music Question
Dick Bly wants to know:
WHO sang this on WHAT song? The difference between us is a part of the game
1: All of the above. For an HI it’s metal to an energized conductor.
2: 75 degrees or 1 in 4
3: C, check valve
4: B
5: None of the above. A breaker is not a load, so you can have any number of such breakers, adding amperage makes no sense. The panel is protected by the main breaker, here 100A so the maximum draw is 100A.
C but it has to be grounded metal. My insulated metal screwdriver, held with insulated gloves wearing insulated boots won’t arc flash.
C
C
D
D because the combined amperage of the breakers when they are in use should nominally be 80% of the rated service. Exceeding this(> 100Amps) should trip the main breaker if a 100 amp breaker is installed. If you somehow or another managed to get a 200 amp breaker into a panel rated for 100 amps, you’ve probably trimmed a bunch of the supply conductors away to fit it under the main lugs. When it starts smoking, you’ll know it’s time to vacate the premises.
As to the music question, so as not to give it away…I’ll just add this little cypher… “Buckle your seatbelt”.
Congrats to MARK ROBERTS for this week’s win.
I gotta feeling there may be some consternation on this one… … …
