Ram 1500 and 3500 are also in the top 10 slowest selling vehicles.
Maybe with the improved dentistry these days and the advent of sunscreen, the target demographic is going away.
I had a 2500 that was beautiful up top and melting away underneath. I heard a clunk pulling into the parking space and the right front part of the axle was connected only by the spring and the break line. I literally replaced everything metal underneath. Oil pan, trans pan, lines, shocks control arms, coils, shrouds, power steering lines, breaks, rotors, calipers, bearings, the list goes on and on.
Once I got my teeth fixed, I sold it and moved to Florida.
Good buying opportunity for a capable 2500. The new 8 speed ZF transmission and 6.4L Hemi is a great combination. Ram sent prices too high and slowed sales.
I stick my brochures in the door when I inspect. 4 inspections in the same neighborhood next week.
Poorly built.
I have a 2018 Power Wagon, basically a modified 2500. I use the Magnetic signs as Martin does. So far it a great vehicle. To combat underneath rust on all my vehicles (since I am in Ohio) I spray fluid film underneath once per year. It seems to do the trick!
So where did this 20 year old truck live before moving to the Sunbelt?
The damage you’re describing indicates to me it’s from the rustbelt. Without proper maintenance, anything in the rustbelt begins to fall apart after a few years.
I’d wrap the truck, but my HOA doesn’t like business advertisements on vehicles parked on the driveway.
So true Martin. I bought my 1990 Dodge Ram 20 years ago from the original owner here in NE Ohio. He is the one that turned me on to using Fluid Film. Still zero rust on this truck. It has the 8 foot bed which comes in handy.
That’s a beautiful truck Joseph! It’s funny sometimes we say “lack of maintenance” in our home inspection reports. And then we neglect simple maintenance on our vehicle if we live in corrosive conditions.
Depends on who you ask. You like copy and paste from the web so here ya go
All makes of vehicles can have issues, as any mass produced items can. Maintenance is key and sometimes you can get a lemon. (just inspected a house with a NG Rheem water tank 4 months old and it had a small leak coming from underneath!)
I agree I don’t think you can buy a vehicle that’s made poorly. New model years have issues. Toyotas feeling it with the Tacoma and the Tundra. Vehicles come with a fairly long warranty. Everything that was defective should have been captured during the warranty. It’s like anything else maintenance is key.
I must look into this fluid fim You speak of, so far my 2020 , 1500 Hemi ram still looks and runs like new…
It seems to work, Jim. I just repeat the underneath every year. The first time I pull out the door plugs etc, take off the rear lights etc. and spray inside. Also spray inside the frame rails etc. They sell a kit where you get a gallon of it, sprayer bottler with some different wands. I also like the smell! it reminds me of the candle smell when I was an alter boy over 60 years ago!
You sure that was a candle that reeked of lubricant?!
I lived in NW NJ. Clearly salted roads did a number on this truck. I pushed snow with it, so that didn’t help. I owned it for 10 years and was otherwise a good truck.
Aren’t you glad you live in the sunbelt Mark?
I love a good snowstorm. I mean, I loved it! Gimme a 3 footer any day. It narrows your focus. You have a prime target of all your energies. I also really loved my snow blower and pushing big piles of snow with the truck. I had an Ariens Platinum 24 SHO with the biggest motor to bucket ratio going. It’d go through anything! Loved it, fun!
The cold sucks
thanks for the information Joe !
Yes it does!
