Sewer scope inspection help,

Good morning,

If anyone could help me this sewer scope inspection, I think I need additional opinions or ideas. One inspector/contractor says this needs repairs, one says it does not.

Home built in 1948, cast iron piping. Here is the video link. Any opinion is appreciated.

Who are you and what is your relationship to the owner? Are you a plumber/sewer tech? You mentioned “the inspector” in your video. Were you hired to follow up on a sewer scope from a home inspector? If so, why are you posting on a home inspector forum?

I agree that an exterior clean out should be installed. But I also think your diagnoses of “serviceability compromised due to root intrusion” is to upsell a new sewer line.

I hired the company to inspect since I am thinking on buying this house as is, and the contractor wants 12k to repair. I can remove the post, I thought it was in open forum

You’re in the right place. My opinion is still the same, the drain tech is trying to upsell a new sewer line. Do you know how long it’s been since the line was augered?

Thank you for the response. It was performed in 2020.

Are you having problems? Chronic back-ups?

12 grand will certainly give you piece of mind, but it’s minimal root growth for being 5 years. Even if you had it routinely snaked or jetted every 3-5 years, you’d be way ahead. I would definitely consider having the outside clean out installed though.
