Using that logic, can I assume you will be buying a sewer cam?
Seriously though Wayne,I would be more shocked if someone came in with a story on my they felt suckered on spending $10,000 for nothing.
That would make good reading.

I sure get tired of listening to what can be found without an IR camera.
In the first place, it’s a means to “document” the conditions so there’s no further argument as to whether or not there’s actually a problem there.
Second, not a week passes where I do not come up with something that is impossible to identify by any other means.
Here is one from this week;

I won’t go through the entire scenario about the numerous times I went back because of defective roof flashing, water behind faux stone, HVAC supply air registers that were not installed and air ducts discharging up there in the ceiling.
On a proposed final reinspection, I found this water spot that was not there on previous inspections. An HVAC air duct and 90+ gas furnace flue were above the ceiling.

The builder was adamant that condensate will not flow back and leak in the flu pipe.
Inspection with a fiber-optic scope found a flue pipe fitting was leaking combustion gas into the duct soffit which in turn was being sucked into the finish area of the house due to the stack effect of the building.
I also found a second leaking furnace flue duct that the contractor stated was just fine because he could see purple at the joint. I grabbed a pipe and it fell off in my hand.
So much for visual observation and analysis!
David, why would you bother convincing them. TX and Chicago are in your back yard with your Southwest miles. Less competition equals more jobs, and higher margins!
JJ
That’s OK Jason, we have coverage in TX.
There are already too many HI Thermographers. For those HIs who haven’t already invested in IR equipment and training, don’t bother. There’s no more money to be made in the field. Oh and while we’re at it, If you don’t already have a well performing website, don’t bother with that either, the Internet is already too crowded and it will just be a waste of your time and money. Just stick with the old methods as I’m sure they will also be the wave of the future…
Bob you do not have a sewer cam ! lol
Bob mine was half the price i have had for 4 years, saved my butt several times on flip homes, fresh paint Leaking drain 2nd floor no stains visible , Leaking Duct work and so on. Plus i get plenty of referrals because i have it. Maybe not for all Home inspectors but i for one believe it is a good investment. ( plus i have been called to find leaks in commerical buildings)
And Btw i am thinking of getting a sewer cam really. Also tossing around getting a van with a bucket left. It depends on what you want to put in to it i guess. I have no problem with basic inspectors not all . I think of it in what your comfortable with. I used Thermal Many years ago when they where Monsters took a man and a boy to carry. so i am comfortable using one.
They are a great tool just like software , I phones and so on .
I agree 100 percent.
On my schedule to get one in the future.
My inspections may take 8 hours @ at that point.
Just yesterday I did a small Condo inspection and caught the whole porch (passed code) ready to collapse.
G-D knows I will be dangerous with a cam.
LOL Bob we are getting older So it is expected to take longer
No question a thermal cam can provide some value. Just don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.
If you get serious about a sewer cam, check out the Wohler product. They range from 1k to 9k. The higher end ones are ridiclous what they can do.
JJ
From all the posts you have made and the info you put out, Bob, I think you are already dangerous. With a cam you will be deadly;)
Just got my cam today. Now if I can just figure out what all the pretty colors mean. I did find out my dog’s body temp is about 87 and her nose is only 65. Cool!!!
Have fun
My new CTL GO tablet is in town and I am waiting as I type for UPS,but as busy as I am ,might not even open the box for a few days.
Sure am busy for a poor guy.
Let us know how you progress so I do not do anything as stupid as you.
I try not to John
but if your leg gets in the way, Be prepared it will get wet .
Dryer or exhaust fan not cut through the siding.
A thermometer would have given similar results…![]()
And if one wants to get fancy than an IR Thermometer would have negated the use of a Ladder… ![]()
Well very true Mr Kelly if you could figure out where it was coming through ( which way it ran) The small bulge did give some indication on this one but on the home next door it did not. No Bulge on that one. I do not make it practice to run a thermometer around each piece of siding. At first we where thinking it dumped in the porch area. It took seconds to find with the thermal , Now the old way probably 30 to 40 minutes. I was only showing what the camera can find . Simple straight forward. It’s has more to offer than not. I use mine every day , included in all inspections ( this is for me).mostly. If inspectors do not want to use one thats up to them.
Not here to promote to debate the use just show how easy it is to find things.
I am sure there are inspectors still out there using no software with the same argument been doing it this way for 20 years .
Change is good, Technology is always changing and so are the ways we all do things.
I do many things that i really do not have to . Just for my peace of mind.
BTW i was one of those guys 20 years ago that hated computers and said we have no use for them.
I was force to change with the times, Now i am Geek sort of.
If there is a gadget out there to make me better or faster to do my job i go for it.
Oh yeah Guess who the company put in showing the other Tech’s on how to the computers worked. Yep i took it apart the first day while my stood there in shock lol.

i had the dryer turned on less than 3 minutes . found it as soon as walked around the home. I was thinking ( in firefighter Mode now) what if i had to run it longer Perhaps a fire?
LOL i know no extra charge i am not a very good capitalist .
