Spray foam possible mold

Never before seen this. It’s spray foam insulation then duct sealing sprayed over it. It appears the combination of the two has caused a white mold growth, but don’t know for sure and will be sending it in for results. Anybody else have seen this?

Not seen anything quite like that. Let us know what test results show.

Looks like the foam insulation is wet, where was this?

Great question. It looks like frozen moisture as opposed to any fungal growth. Was it in an uninsulated area?

what did it taste like???

then it is effloressence, You have a moisture intrusion problem…see how simple ???

It is in the furnace room. On the foundation wall that is protected by the garage, so it is not insulated but also on the interior wall. It is where ever the two chemicals mixed. And no, I did not taste it.

Other risks why I think it’s an issue it’s a 2016 home, air exchanger not running, humidifier set to 5

As you state, might just be a reaction from the two substances making contact. Did you touch it? Was it wet? Take a moisture reading?

No moisture. It was dry and powdery, like white mold on Brie cheese, but also could be dry powder like efflorescence.

Do you have a wider view of the area? Very curious situation for sure. Will be interested in the mold results so be sure to come back and post them.

Did not take a wider view, but from the picture i posted below the insulation with the issue is poured foundation wall and above it is engineered eye Joist with rock wool insulation. I think this house must’ve failed a air tightness blower door test and they got a little crazy with the wrong product.

Where is the duct that had the duct sealing applied? Is it under the spray foam, or is it in a joist bay directly above this area? Is the spray foam applied directly on the foundation wall? What is the white material in the lower left of the picture? Almost looks like vapor barrier sheathing.

Looks like a dried spill. There are burst air bubbles in the substance and crystals. The bubbles may be from the foam, but the crystals are something else, not organic. More photos would be helpful. (someone ripped a chunk out of it. Times to talk to the homeowner)
