I recently inspected my personal pool when preparing to upgrade the lighting to LED. My pool is equipped with two wet niche luminaires which were previously equipped with 500 watt halogen bulbs. The lighting circuit is 120 volts and is equipped with the required GFCI protection. The lights are installed at 18 inches below the water line. The photo is with the LED light upgrade. As you can see, even without any exterior lighting the LED lights provide enough illumination to clearly see the bottom of the pool.
I read the inspection article on pool alarms. As a pool owner, I want to take every precaution I can to keep children safe in our pool area, and as an inspector I want to encourage my clients to do the same. Even with a barrier fence and self-closing gate it is still possible for an unattended child to enter the pool area. If this happens, having a pool alarm will alert the homeowner if the child willingly or inadvertently enters the pool.
