Thermal Window failure

Does anyone have a good test to determine if the thermal seal in insulated (thermal) window is bad or going bad?

Once they are bad enough you can see stains between the panes, and sometimes see a halo coloring in the glass.

However, often you can not see the problem on the day of the inspection depending on outside light, or weather conditions or dirty windows.

Any suggestions??
