Oh! Nathan got it, issue and result! Just as I posted that last one. How’s that for timing?
Honorable mention to Juan and Jim Horton for guessing the issue, but they didn’t extrapolate the resulting problem. So close!
There were three and a half bathrooms in this house, I was standing over the top of 2.5 of them and not one plumbing vent comes through the roof. The only vent I found was in the attic below where I was standing. Two bathrooms were under the gable at the bottom right of the panorama and I couldn’t access that portion of the attic. What I could see in the main section of the attic was moldy and even damp.
John Ritter had it too. Good guesses guys. Actually, some of you mentioned a couple other things that were also issues, but weren’t really clear in the photo.
The cupola on the top ridge was just decoration, it actually sat on top of the shingles but didn’t have any ventilation function. The deck was a mess, the deck cover/arbor was cobbled together and it’s attachment to the deck was pretty poor. Ventilation wasn’t an issue aside from the massive amounts of sewer gas entering the attic for 17 years. The original owner was a 9th level screw-it-up-yourselfer.
I’ll try to do another one before Christmas. Thanks guys, these are fun.
