Trump Plans To Enact 25 Percent Tariffs On Canada And Mexico On February 1st

Hmmm

Canadians are beginning to see the world from our perspective.

Yes Canada, you should do this… Support your country and local business. And stop hating your neighbor who desires the same. It seems hate is the only thing that motivates the left these days.

“I’m glad that we’re getting rid of American products and supporting local businesses,” Leah Russell, the manager of a pub in Toronto, told the BBC on Saturday.

Sometimes I’m glad Behar says stupid things and gets applause for it.

Because it allows room for some actual human beings to talk about it.

Some great points in here. With the exception of the lady attacking Tim Scott and her reasoning for doing so.

Couldn’t give them away…

Another tariff change… Actually Lutnick was the one who called Doug. Now the electrical tariff is paused. Doug is heading to the whitehouse for a chat. Stay tuned…

Those who are offended by the 51st state comment were able to stir up some patriotism which feels good. But reality looms.

Good news. The sea will lay flat soon enough and all this pomp and circumstance will fade as the actual negotiations play out.

Meanwhile, next week there will be no strawberries or avocados. And the week after?

“This is great. My wife volunteers at a food bank and last week they received a boxful of avocados because they didn’t sell, so they all went to feed the community,” another Reddit user noted.

I can’t speak for everyone. However, ourselves personally, we don’t buy avocados. As for strawberries, veggies, etc., as you know we grow and prep throughout the year, so we have a lot of fruit, veggies, etc., always on hand. Our shelves and 4 freezers are always full, etc. PEI itself has a lot of farming, from fruits and veggies, to dairy, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, eggs, much of the best seafood in the world, etc, which we buy locally on almost any road in PEI. We also donate to the food banks. There are also a lot of items in the stores from other countries. As for in-store grocery shopping, there’s not a lot of junk/poison we need to buy. Yes, the storm will pass.

Is this not the point? But on a national level? Trump is saying to the world, these things are to be made in America in order to be sold in America. He is happy with foreign investment, it just needs to be within our border. He also wants tariffs to be equal both directions across the border, which has not been so. Canada has operated in a state of protectionism for a long time. But when the US says “wait, we are harming ourselves” the world turns against us.

Fine.

But Trump is not stopping. He will change the tide.

He also wants Canada to take its borders seriously. Since we protect Canada militarily, it is not too much to ask. But apparently Trudy thinks it is. Well, we know where that got him.

As for things being made in the USA, Canada, or any other country, it’s a good thing, there’s nothing wrong with supporting local. Canada is not out to get the U.S., we’ve been friends and neighbours for many years, with a lot of sharing from both sides. Tariffs are currently there and are BS from all sides, but remember tariffs have not always been in place on a lot of products. As for the borders, Canada takes it’s borders seriously and steps up security as needed. It’s much the same from the U.S., there are a lot of weapons and drugs, etc., that try to come across the border, that Canada stops at the border.

As for Trudeau, we already knew he was done. No need to talk about him any longer.

I heard there was finally a moose sighting on PEI. It vanished quickly.
I know what happened. One freezer now has a ton of Moose Ears & Steaks.

It takes them awhile to get to the point, like the last paragraph.

Canada’s supply-management system has previously caused issues within the USMCA. In 2022, a USMCA panel agreed that Canada breached its commitments under the agreement by reserving part of the tariff rate quotas for certain types of businesses.

“However, while it is true that Canada can place high tariffs on some products imported from the U.S., including dairy, online claims lacked context. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a trade agreement negotiated by the former Trump administration in 2018, set out tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for U.S. dairy products imported into Canada. The higher tariff rates for dairy mentioned by Trump and in online claims apply only to goods imported “over access commitment,” meaning above the quota agreed to by the U.S. and Canada. According to one U.S. dairy industry professional, these quotas have never been exceeded, which would trigger the higher tariff rate. Therefore, we rate this claim a mixture of truth and falsehood.”

Only part of the story. Then Canada played dirty. Trump is upset…

Canada is no different than us or anybody. Let’s not be naive. Orange man bad is too simplistic, though they want you to stay in that mindset.
