Most were fairly short runs before going verticle. This particular vent tied into the furnace vent about 24" away. There wasn't much rise in the vent, but no obvious problems.

Ceiling drywall in the closet in this case.

It was very obvious in one condo where the drywall was obviously heated and being burned.

I see alot of this also in homes approx. 18 yrs. old where the furnace(electric) is directly above. Typically in KB Homes.
