Website Design

As we’re building the state-specific sites, I’ve been working on a design for them and possibly nachi.org as a whole. I’ve put up a rough design at http://ma.nachi.org – I’d love as much feedback as possible. Is it too graphic intensive? Is the green out of place? Are the oranges too bright? Does the design take up too much space? Do you miss the highlighting menu items? Tell me everything you can think of icon_smile.gif

Thanks,

I like the colorfulness of the new one. I don’t think I would add anything to it though because it will become too busy.

Hi Chris

I like the look of the site but I think the green is to much and makes the page look like its falling over, here’s a suggestion for you how about in that top right area putting a state specific picture, ie Fanuiel Hall, a bowl of “chowda” or gridlocked traffic on I93 you know something any resident of Ma would recognise icon_biggrin.gif

Also would the site need all of the navigation buttons on the left side, the same as our normal pages, or would these be cut down on the states pages.

Regards

Gerry,

I agree about the state-specific images... we had already been talking about them. I like the green, but you're one of many opponents to it, so I guess I'll give up my battle.

The bar on the side would be content-specific. I just put that stuff up to take up space.

As a web designer I like it MUCH better than the current page. I think it has a more professional look. I don’t mind the green either. I think you could find a color that looked better than green, but I don’t think it is bad either.

As for the menu my preference is for the link to somehow change when you roll over it. I usually use SSI and make the link do one of these, change colors, become bold text, or become italics. I think that is does two things. It attracts attention to the links and keeps viewers there longer. And it makes it easier to read multi-line links. They have separation.

I think it is a big improvement over the existing design. Looks more .... well not sure the word. Professional I guess?

Jeff,

I agree about the mouseover effect. I think I'm going to add the menu lighlighting again. As an additional comment -- I'd suggest not using bold or italics as it can effect the positioning of words. Most people don't like to put their mouse over an item to have part of it run away from them.

Yes. We’re putting together an informative site about the laws of each state and what you have to do to become an inspector and stay legal. ma.nachi.org will be a side dedicated to Massachusetts, for example.

Looks great Chris… A bit too much orange but you did a great job.

My suggestion is to add a big red lobster on the top right side of the page, to the Massachusetts site.
