What is this in the ceiling of an upstairs laundry room?

Does anyone know what this ceiling unit above the washer is? 3 year old home, could it be a make up air system of some sort to compensate for the dryer vent? It is manufactured by Panasonic, there do not appear to be any controls for it other than a wall switch which when activated nothing happens. No data plate was found. Any thoughts?

Lighting Fixture.

A close-up photo would help.

Not a light fixture.

Exhast fan port. Since you didn’t hear anything, either it is inop, or it is connected to a passive ERV/HRV/Remote fan unit that is located inline, or in the basement or attic.

Some areas are now requiring exhaust fans in laundry rooms to help to evacuate moisture from the operation of laundry machines.

Hey, Jeff, thanks. I assumed it was something like this just don’t understand why it is there. Likely a make up air unit.

Perfect, thank you, that kind of unit makes sense.

First I’ve seen here, this is a 3 year old home and I do quite a few new builds. Thank you

It’s an exhaust fan to vent moisture. It’s a quiet one so I always stick my card on it to show that it is working.

I use toilet tissue on ceiling vents.

That works too if they have any tp in the home.

Try using “Google Lens” next time.

It will take your photo and search the net and likely tell you what it is.

I think it is a bit more than that. It is two way. It supplies exterior fresh air while exhausting interior air.
