“The International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellingsis designed to meet these needs through model code regulations that **safeguard the public health and safety”
*"***The code drafting committee used certain principles as guidance in the resolution of technical differences. The principles were based on the intent to establish provisions consistent with the scope of a residential code that adequately protects public health, safety and welfare"
I have references on my laptop with me… Code Check Ebooks work on/offline. PDF’s with some other references… At desk, there’s a number of references as well.
Would seem that you can get much of the codes online in one shape or form. Some of the reference/guides for Electrical / Building etc are good…
A home inspector who isn’t familiar with the model codes and doesn’t own a copy of a code book is just average. If you want to stand out and be known as a knowledgeable home inspector, and command premium prices, code knowledge and hence a code book is indispensable.
I purchase the IRC and IBC every code cycle in PDF form so I can search it quickly on the computer.
I can’t say it better than this. Code Compliance
Code compliance is the first objective in any design. Codes are legal minimum requirements; you have to meet the minimum with any design.
“Sometimes you wind up with less protection than you should have; other times you end up with more,” Harrington says. “Compliance with building codes is like bandwidth. It gives you a broad-brush range that has to be applied to every single building in the jurisdiction.** Sometimes it hits the mark** and provides cost effectiveness and protection; other times it might not hit the mark.”
Dang, I need to change my report wording…from “GFCI receptacles are required near water to save lives” to “GFCI receptacles can save your structure and your insurance company thousands”.
Funny I feel the same way about you CC.
At least you come to recognize you should read the entire thing rather than just pick out a sentence.
Does that not apply also to the bible.
I think I remember that you should always read in context or you just might get the wrong message.
