“Compassionate Access to Medical Cannabis” Who writes this crap? I can’t stop laughing.
Written in all my reports with CSST. Recommend a licensed electrical contractor insure proper bonding.
Reviving this thread for a question about black CSST. I’ve been inspecting quite a few homes that have black CSST installed. The CA Business and Professions Code only mentions yellow with no reference to black. I haven’t been able to get a clear answer online whether or not this should also include black CSST.
Does anyone have a definitive answer on this one? I have not been referring out black CSST in my reports because the CA B & P Code doesn’t mention black. I don’t want to have this come back to hurt me though. I’m currently working on a report for a home with black CSST.
Do you have a manufacturer name and model type for the black CSST?
Thanks for asking that question. I didn’t think I had a good enough picture with labeling but I do. I found a report by looking up ICC-ES. I think its Gastite Flashshield but please check me on this. I’m still unsure whether the following information excuses me from the requirement to include it in my reports.
According to that note additional bonding is not required. With CSST some manufacturers require additional bonding jumpers and some don’t. The NEC does not require additional bonding of any CSST so it’s up to the manufacturers instructions to tell you when it’s required.
I was wrong about the brand. Its the TracPipe Counterstrike and this is what they say about bonding (shown below). I just called a local, reputable licenced electrical outfit about this and they said that they know of no bonding requirements locally for CSST (either color). I just spoke with a building inspector that also stated that he was not very aware of these requirements and mentioned that the electrical and gas codes would probably apply but that was all he stated he knew about this subject off the top of his head.
My state doesn’t include “black” in the B&P code so I guess I won’t include it in my reports, especially if the prospective electricians that I have to refer out to can’t even help the owner of my report if they get a call for bonding inspection on CSST.
As I understand it, yellow jacket needs special (additional) bonding, and black jacket doesn’t. And that’s the rule I play by. That said, it is rare I find yellow jacket with bonding. I call it out at least once a week.
I think you answered your own question.
True, 7196.2(a) only mentions yellow
But 7196.2(b) says “For purposes of this section, “corrugated stainless steel tubing” means a flexible, stainless steel pipe used to supply natural gas and propane in residential, commercial, and industrial structures.”
So, that section could be taken to include any color of CSST.
My rule is any CSST is worth mentioning.
