Boggles the mind!

Was the water boiling at the ends of the rope light when they turned them on?

No wonder there are no GFCIs they would be tripping all the time.

May I post these pictures at an electricians forum if I give you, and / or NACHI credit for them Joe?

Hey, Honey, go out and get in the pool. I’ll be out to join you in just a few minutes. Oh, I’ll turn the pool lights on when I come out (heh-heh).

Look here too in the Electrical Contractor Forum.

Thanks Joe, this is a classic and will be a show opener for me this week in Las Vegas at the DOE Electrical Safety Conference!

Are you sure that was a swimming pool? Looks more like a hot tub or a deep fryer to me icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

JT beat me to it but thank you anyway, many people will be amazed at these photos.

Have you ever seen the floating 120 volt pool outlet that Joe T has a picture of?

It must be from the same pool. ![icon_rolleyes.gif](upload://iqxt7ABYC2TEBomNkCmZARIrQr6.gif)

There was a post over on ECN about how U/L was changing the listing for rope light because of all the abuses. This is fairly good stuff, when used properly but it is still just a tube with wire in it and if the ends are not made up properly it can be dangerous.

Joe F,

Now that is an eye-opener.
I still can't believe that there are actually real people out there that are that oblivious of electricity.

Give me a break.![](upload://7GBzTMRZc7nmxEH37MrCJS8m63s.gif)

I wouldn’t be surprised to see universal GFCI/AFCI protection on all 120v 15 & 20a circuits in a dwelling within the next 2 code cycles.

It could get to the point that you have a hard time finding a single pole breaker that isn’t GFCI/AFCI.

Every time I see something like this rope in a pool it makes me think it ain’t a bad idea. icon_wink.gif

Now I wanna know where the fellow is that wrote Mike Holt the email about how ridiculous AFCI protecting a whole house was. icon_biggrin.gif

I wonder if he would change his views on what he called a "money making" scheme by the NFPA and the manufacturers!

Kinda brings a warm, fuzzy feeling all over me to know there was absolutely no basis for his claims, and yes Virginia we do have to protect people from their own gross stupidity and ignorance!

I've thought I'd seen it all. That is, until the other day. Imagine going to check on the electric out by this above ground swimming pool.

Now, before you look at the photos, imagine that you see an indoor-rated wall switch installed exposed to the elements. Then you see cracked and open conduit. Then you see a broken receptacle box. Then you dont see any GFCI anywhere. Then you see this...
