A cricket should be installed

The rear of this chimney should have a chimney cricket installed. All that is there currently is a rain diverter. I personally think that this rain diverts is currently working fine, however and technically a cricket should be installed. That sucker is about 4-5 ft wide. I don’t like those diverter because of the possibility of water backing up under the shingle. Thoughts?

Chimneys 30"+ should have a proper cricket. They not only clear water but also prevent snow and debris (leaves, branches, etc…) from accumulating and staying wet, killing the shingles prematurely in the process. What you’ve got in the pic is not a good substitute for a proper cricket

You’ve got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It’s called perseverance. – Lee Iacocca
