The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI) is an independent, not-for-profit entity, founded in 1999 for the specific purpose of developing, maintaining and administering the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE). Administration of the NHIE is intended to insure that home inspection professionals meet basic knowledge and practice requirements. Successful completion of the examination answers the needs of the public, government and home inspectors. Certain states license these professionals and may require passing this examination as a licensing requirement.
