Hi, I’m just getting started in the inspection business and am thinking of getting trained and certified to inspect for mold, radon, lead and bugs . Are any of you doing this? Do you recommend having all of these sub specialties?

I do Radon, Well Flow, Water Testing, Termite, Septic Dye Testing. In my area I couldn't survive without doing these add-ons. Keep in mind that all these require additional training and costs.

Joe,
Check your local laws. Here in WA if you sub it out, you need a GC license, otherwise you can only refer it. Yours may be different, but doesn't hurt to know if big brother can nail you or not.

Thanks for the great info! I will be working mostly in Minnesota and will branch out to Wisconsin. Currently no licensing is required in MN for home inspection, radon, mold. I will check out the other suggestions. In my research I’m finding a variety of training for all of the ancillary services but how do I know that I will receive good training? NAMP sounds good for mold, has anybody taken their course? would you recommend them or somebody else? What I’m looking for are recommendations from Inspectors who have taken courses in any of these add on services. Thanks again for your responses!

Joe,
Being from Pa to, what did you have to go through to be able to do water potability, well flow and septic?? I not real good at tracking this info down.
