Aluminum Wiring

We called these wires at a house multistrand aluminum wiring. The homeowner said he had a licensed electrician come out and told him it was just dirty copper. I’m relatively new to this field and I’m pretty sure this electrician is wrong. Thoughts?

What difference does it make? It’s UNTERMINATED!

Agreed. Put a wire nut on it and move on. It does look like tinned copper marine wire though.

Why are your guys calling out stuff like that on a 4pt?

It’s tin copper and just needs a wirenut. I usually don’t call this out on a 4-point. Got to be careful UW’s could kick the binder on this which makes it difficult for your client to obtain insurance.

The homeowner pulled the wires out of the breaker and sent photos to show that they were copper. They appeared to be aluminum when they were in the breakers.

Thank you all for the info though.

Multi strand aluminium wire is the mainstay of virtually all distribution wire used by virtually all electrical companies!

SINGLE STRAND DISTRIBUTION WIRE IN A HOME IS TO BE REPORTED ACCORDING TO THE sop. Not multi strand!
