Inspected a panel yesterday, that had aluminum, multi-strand wiring feeding the 240V dryer as well as the 240V oven. Looked to be 6 ga. All of the other branch circuit wiring was copper.
Is there a problem with this?
I've been in the operating mode that aluminum branch circuit wiring is not a good thing, but I know that multi-strand aluminum is acceptable for the high voltage service feeds. So I wasn't sure about this situation.

If it had penetrox on the connectors, it should be just fine. Large gauge aluminum wire is just as safe as copper provided it is properly installed with an anti-oxident. The breaker and receptical need to be rated for AL, but they probably are. I’ve never seen a stove/dryer plug not rated CU-AL (that rating is acceptable for stove/dryer plugs but not for 115v plugs whihc must be CO/ALR).

This was what I was thinking also, after doing some further research, but I wanted some other opinions.

[size=18]Hello Members,
I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that post here. I have my first, "with aluminum wiring", inspection on Friday, and as usual I came here and, bingo, there was a post on alum. wiring. I've been inspecting for about 6 mos. and have found this site to be a wealth of information. So I decided to go ahead and register and say thanks to all of you, I think you honestly contribute to this/our profession ![icon_exclaim.gif](upload://kW92MliyHA8ygoXI0UsgtBSn4ZO.gif)
