Ron,

We ARE the software company. I thought you knew that by my posting signature. We are one of the main 5 home inspection software companies along with 3D, Porter Valley, Palm-Tech and HomeGauge. Borealis has over 1,500 home inspector clients across the US and Canada that use our software. One of the biggest franchises in the country has been using our software over 7 years now. We were on handhelds before Carl ever knew what a handheld was. icon_wink.gif

I personally prefer Ipod. I can store up to 10.000 pictures, organize them into categories, and find them on the fly. Hell, I can even load music on it and listen to it on my car stereo.

It does all that and more than what Pocket PC does for inspection industry.

Ever used Tablet PC? A Pocket PC’s bigger, wiser brother?

Danny,

Sorry, but as I said in an earlier post I think the TabletPCs are just too big, clumsy, expensive, breakable and more complicated a device than a typical home inspector really needs. Home Inspectors want a simple small electronic clipboard that is easy to carry around while they are doing their inspection. A device you can read the screen inside and outside, can sustain a drop to concrete, is instant on, all day battery life, SIMPLE operating system but has the speed and functionality they need.

I would never consider a TabletPC a bigger, wiser PocketPC. I would consider the TabletPC the more complicated, clumsier and more expensive bigger sister to the PocketPC. Now that Microsoft has loosened the reins on the specs that a PocketPC must fall under this has opened the doors to different form factors for a PocketPC now. We are hoping to see slightly bigger versions of the current PocketPCs in like a paperback book size that might work better for some home inspectors. The new HP iPaq 4700 series PocketPC is a great step in that direction. It has a bigger 4 inch diagonal 480x640 screen (absolutely beautiful screen), 624MHz processor, Bluetooth, WiFi, CF and SD card slots. It is the best handheld we have seen since the Newton.

I have to agree with Jeff.

I also use the Dell x50v and print my Inspectvue R reports onsite… I can carry the x50v either on my belt holster or in a pocket on my camera case … very nice when you?re going on the roof or crawling… finished notes on the spot. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

And, if I get bored sitting at a railway crossing … I can whip out the x50v and do email/scheduling/Texas Hold’em =)
