B vent for boiler vented to side of house against vinyl siding

i just inspected a house that had a b vent on the side of the house against vinyl siding. This was from an old boiler. HVAC tech gave them an ok for this??? what does everyone think??

Well for one, we know B-vent requires a minimum of 1” to combustibles, so….

My first question would be if the boiler manufacturer allows horizontal venting/termination. If they do, then my next question would be the clearance requirements for the termination cap in your pics. It looks like it has a label, so might be able to find info online.

That intact label hints that there is no concern of heat at that termination!
If that label can survive, I think the vinyl will be just fine.

Possibly, unless it is a new cap, or new siding.

Not enough information from the inspector, but the box itself appears to have some wear to the edges/sides.

Looks like heat discoloration. Could be a new termination and new siding.

For that type of natural draft or induced draft, the horizontal length of B-vent cannot exceed 75% of the vertical length. Clearance may be the least of the problem.

A general wide angle shot of the basement and the mechanicals would be helpful. Along with model numbers etc.

This abbreviated information causes people to guess and assume which is not serving anyone very well.

Perhaps Ben could do a class on data collection, general photos and CYA best practices.

While I agree that for most of the inquiries made on the forum, more information is usually needed, in this instance, the requirements for section lengths, clearances, and slope are universal.

I think most of the first time or newbie posters here, take only enough photos to trigger “evaluation by appropriate expert” and then, later decide to come here with their questions. I find it curious how many hit and run posters we have.

Perhaps FB has the immediate answer

I’m going to harp a little bit on photos. I’ve done this before, so forgive my repetiveness.

I do repairs for listing agents as time permits. I SEE a lot of different reports. There’s a couple of knucklehead inspectors who have been in the business for years or decades and they don’t include a flipping wide shot of a problem. You get a shot 3 inches away. Great, nice detail. Where is this at? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?
