Basement main beam notched - question

Hi we took the attached. The builder looks to have notched one of the beams in order to put in some plumbing. This is one of two main beams across the main expanse of the basement. Both are also supported in the middle with a couple of steel verticals.

However, I can’t imagine the cutting any of the main beam away is a good idea…is it possible that this still meets code this way?

The other picture shows how the other end is joined to the basement wall.

Thanks very much for any insight.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but I don’t see any notching in the beam…

You need to look closer Mr. Pope

Try this guys

I am not good determining wood sizes by looking at a photo but they look like 2x12. The max length of the notch would be 3.75 inches and the depth would be 1 7/8 of inch. I can’t really tell from the photo if you meet this requirements.

Nothing I would be concerned about.

Look here; that might help you in the future and take the Inachi coursre. http://www.nachi.tv/tips/inspect-notches-holes-cuts-in-lumber.htm

for the angular portion removed, I would not be concerned…

It looks fine from here.

Keep studying! I agree no Issue at all.

Had this happen back in my home building days. Except it was a bit deeper. Building inspector and engineer okay’d it.
