Improper beam supports

Hey all, just need some confirmation on what I’m seeing. Saw two 2x12 beams in the basement of a two-story, 1,700 sf, 3/2 built in 2006. The beams run parallel, left to right in the basement. The end of one beam is terribly notched and the other beam is nailed into the structure with no support beneath. It’s 9 ft from the nearest support column to the end of the beam. I’m calling it out as a non-supported beam and an improperly notched beam. I want to make sure I’m not missing something that would negate the call. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I can’t see anything that would negate your good call, Anthony.

And, the vapor barrier is on the wrong side if living space above.

Thanks Larry, and yes, there is two stories worth of living space above.

You’re welcome. Glad to help.

Beam notch rule: Print a copy of this beam notching illustration, put it on your clipboard for reference during inspections:

There are a lot of good illustrations like this that are helpful to have on your clipboard during an inspection. Available at the NACHI Graphics Library.

Hey Mike, Thanks for the tip. I don’t carry a clipboard, but perhaps I can find a way to store them in my phone for easy access. I appreciate it!
