I am interested in becoming a HI and would like to know if anyone can point out some of the best educational program(s) being offered by HI associations/schools:
ex.
ASHI = $3000 for 500 hours
AAHI = $600 for 100 hours
etc.
Please assume that I know nothing about the business and am searching for a top quality *distance learning* education that money can buy, although I don't want to be ripped off. I do want an over the top training program and am willing to pay more to get it!
My background includes: Management-Food Service Equipment Repair-Maintennce Tech-Machine Operator-Licensed Realtor etc. I had taken NACHI's exam without absolutely no preperation and scored 67.

That being said, since your background is not construction related, you may want to reconsider your decision to attempt distance learning with a subject as broad as home inspection, and may really gain from a hands-on class. If so, I would then suggest taking the Enhanced Two Week - Home Inspection course, here... http://www.home-inspect.com/courses/twoweek.html
BTW, just in case you are wondering, I have no connection with ITA and have nothing to gain by your attendance except the fact that there will be one more competently trained HI starting out in our profession, and that may help to keep all of our E&O insurance premiums in check.
Hope this was helpful,

Hello John,
I took the Home Inspection Program offerd by Eduation direct. http://www.educationdirect.com/index.html I thought it was very informative and it teaches you all the basics you need tyo know to get started.
Some of the things really liked about this particular coarse is:
1) learn at your own pace.
2) didn't break the bank.
3) First They teach you how to study at home, they then go through everything from each system & how to inspect it to how to report it to what you need to do to start your own business.
When I was starting out I spent hours reading this BB, and even today I still get on here as much as possible. This profession is a never ending learning experience.
The best of luck.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for such an informative site.
I did try and access your course "frames" by going to the HP (very bottom) on tip of the day. All I can view is the text frame "tip of the day" with no image or additional frame link to the information. I hit the refresh button for giggles anyway and it goes to the same text. Where can I find the link?

Joesph,
I will be as competent as I can. That is why I am requesting info on a quality program. Thanks for the reference. I do have experience with PM checklists in commercial/ retail establishments so I am quite familiar with electrical, plumbing and safety issues. I also have experience on "farming" my territory as a former Realtor. My shortcomings have to do with residential structures and codes (which is huge).
I had requested an "exhaustive" training program (although I probably don't need it) to refresh my memory on the basics and to go far past that. I will check out ITA this evening. ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif) Thanks again!
