Bird's nest in fireplace vent

FYI - Birds like to build nests in these vented fireplace wall vents. These can catch fire so I flag them in the report and suggest they ALWAYS check the vent BEFORE lighting the fireplace.

Maybe it’s a flaw in the design. I saw the same thing for the first time yesterday.

I don’t think it is a design flaw Joe. Just an ideal place to build a nest. I see these vents with nests at least 50% of the time.

That’s interesting. Here, I see maybe…one nest in a fireplace vent once a year. Do we have different birds? Maybe Coloradans use their fireplaces more? Maybe we have smarter birds…or dumber?
