Chimney spikes for bird?

Saw this and I just needed to share…

I guess it was meant to keep birds from getting on top of chimney flue pipe.

I would be concerned with the screening over the vent openings. These could ice or freeze and cause a potential blockage.

Never in Canada saw any freeze also in very old homes saw many
1 1/4 plumbing vents always working fine . all screened wall vents never seen any freeze
