Bubbles in vinyl siding

Came across this yesterday, is it reflected heat, improper nailing, or heat from the fireplace itself?

Is that a wood framed chimney / flue race?

Usually when I’ve seen that it has been because their BBQ Grill was too close to the siding, but it typically covered a little larger area than that. Maybe because of the corner it was concentrated there? Is there a deck there or is that higher up like on the 2nd floor?

If the fireplace got that hot I would think more of that enclosure area would be affected.

More pics?

it’s actually decreased by three fourths or by a factor of four.

I’m guessing reflected from the window right next to it…

Hello. I am a home owner who has bubbles (look and feel like a baseball is under the vynil siding (Crane) under the siding in the heat. We reported it in the summer, but Crane didn’t send an inspector until Oct. when it had cooled off. I am still waiting for what they are going to do. It’s all around the house (when it’s hot) in various spots. I saw their report and the inspector blamed it on adjacent windows… However we get it on the back of the hosue where no neighbor’s windows are reflecting. Also the sides where we have a close window from the neighbor is a tiny bathroom windcow and the bubbles form far down the sides from the window. I can undersatnad the window exaccerbates the problem, but I think this a mfg defect. The inspector says the installation where he checked was ok. He pulled the siding off in one place and showed how far apart the nails were in the report and didnt’ comment that it was wrong…do I am not thinking it’s installation. Has ANYONe had any issues like this? What could be causing this? I’ve complained since June and am still waiting and it’s November! my house is in worse shape (in the heat anyway) then when I started! I hope Crane will pay to replace it all.

Is that a chase ?

Robert… Rebecca is the poster.
Jack posted 2 years ago.

Sorry Rebecca but not being there can only say to read the post.
Reflecton has been documented to cause the issue.

No idea why the side with no reflection has the issue.

I know Bob I read the date.
I wanted to see if any issues like that have reappeared. The temp. would have to be high to distort vinyl IMO.

A little story of why I am interested…
My friend built a new home in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec. 1.5 hour drive fro my door.Been there all my life. After the specialty ordered window were installed the vinyl that they had ordered treated around the pains warped. It became an aesthetic issue at first. The argon gas and other related elements combined to create the distorting effect. " o they said"

He went through the home inspector frustration 25 years ago and field testing revealed the thermal pains heated up enough to warp the skin, it was thin, enough to make the vinyl warp. It was thin Bob and only effected the appearance. I can not see how the vinyl siding in the thread could have warped that area. A curvature in the pain maybe but I would like to see more data not speculation.
How he came into the property.
My friends father bought the 3 sons each a country home when they were in their teens. 1/2 of 9th ave in Val David Quebec. A great deal. very entrepreneurial old man and 3 sons.
The dad a GC when we where younger and lucked upon some great property below the .SIVANANDA ASHRAM YOGA CAMP.
Another friend became a GC and carpenter after his father stopped working there. He built the main building you see in the link and I was to build a IDLE pedestal out of CMU block after working on the last roof 5 years ago. I cut my finger from the last digit over my knuckle and up my hand 4". I taped it up after being in shock. Man did I bleed, Fall and cool.
I finished the roof after taping my finger with electrical tape and gauze.
A swami and other healers worked their energy on the cut. My doctor was amazed at how deep and long the cut was and gave me hell. Nothing there after 2 weeks. All healed.
To the bone with cat claw hook blade. No joke. I would clean the wound several times for 5 days until the healing stated. L’d see the knuckle and tendons I just missed and clean away infection starting.
I did a roof or two and maintenance others my friends son laid. He had not been apprenticed.
nice yoga camp in Quebec.
Its know around the world. They have a small airport and hangers for Cessna’s and other small craft. They relieved me of sinus issue at 18. My Lord Goddess Parvaty/ Durga how I suffered sinus issue when I was younger. The pills I took.
Anyway. That why I am interested.
Funny how some things spark a line of overlapping personal history, moments and memories. That thread did that that to me as you can see.

any one have pic’s of distorted vinyl I be happy to see it.
Thanks.
Swami Bob’s your uncle mate

I don’t know how many more times I have to post this subject, but it is not just about the temperature of the siding…

It is about “exposure” to the UV spectrum light.

Just because you can’t see it, or measure a 200 degree rise does not mean it does not effect the polymers of the siding.

You can bend PVC pipe without “heating” it using light.

Why is electrical conduit not made of PVC? Because it is outdoors?

Just because it looks like sun passes through glass, not all of it’s energy does.
Increased UV on one end of the spectrum and the heat from IR on the other bouncing off windows and other reflective objects.

You need to measure the right thing, and it is not just about temperature.

I don’t know if it is a defect. It is likely it about how and what the siding was made of. Additives will will change the reactiveness to UV.

Understood David.
I know why the suspect condition occured. I understand the light spectrum thing.
I wuld like to see proof.
Measured proof.

I worked with Vinyl and tyvek over 30 years ago. I start bending on a break in the early 1980’s doing tin sidding as an apprentce. The tin smith liked me and taught me how to bend metal.
I had my chance to be a tim smith but passed.
I bent a fare bit of angles myself. I just had 3000 dollars in tin tools robbed from my work truck 2 months ago. All hand tools and drill bits.

Thanks David.

I saw this on a new house a couple of years ago. There was a large area of siding that was damaged (appeared to have had a heat source applied to it). Long story short, all involved were able to determine that a large low e 5’x5’ picture window in the house next door was reflecting the sun onto the house. Due to the size of the window the area damaged ended up being approximately 75 square feet. They ended up putting a screen on the window to greatly reduce the amount of reflection onto the adjacent house.

Does anyone have any information on the manufacturing of vinyl siding? or/and have any statistics, data on complaints against manufactures of said product.
Thanks in advance.

Here is abit of what I found.
Terms used. Some companies call it.(CW) Compression Wrinkle. Owens Corning (RF) Reflective Distortion., or softening due to heat. Melting vinyl.

Material safety data sheet (MSDS), safety data sheet (SDS),[1] or product safety data sheet (PSDS)
The MSDF 444 or material safety date sheet safety data had vinyl siding product compression or melting point at 160 degrees F.

Now it sounds low **but **do not spill liquid of that temperature on Mr. Johnson, or as some like to refer to that gender, genital man.
Can soneone tell me where do some individuals come up with this stuff ? To much time on their hands I bet,
As for myself I like to think deep thoughts early in the wee hours of the morning. Long before the crack of dawn and ponder What is the meaning of life ?

Anyone else do the same?
