I hope we’re not wasting too much tax money fighting terrorism. More Americans are killed by bees than terrorists.
You save the most lives by allocating resources in proportion to risk. In other words, we shouldn’t waste a lot of our tax money worrying about falling vending machines. That money would save more lives fighting heart disease.
I trust our U.S. military isn’t committing statistical mass murder of Americans by wasting more of our precious resources on fighting terrorism than fighting bees.
Hey Frank,
You know anything about this “very exclusive club” you and I are members of?

Hope you’re doing ok Frank!
Frank caught Kate using the word “bear” when she should have used “bare.”
Only you and Frank belong to this exclusive club (People who caught Kate the Editor Club). I hope to one day be admitted.
Frank and I will save you a seat at the table, which for Kates sake hopefully remains a small table! :o
Nick I see you have joined the “old folks with poor memories club”.
Why do I say that???
Kate use the word BARE when she should have used BEAR.
Congratulations USians, on completely eliminating firearms as a cause of death. About time.
Nick,
I’d love to see this chart as a PDF, looking nice and professional, as to print out and hand to clients. Maybe with the IAC2 logo on the page somewhere?
Firearms don’t (can’t) kill anyone. Firearms are just tools, like hammers or baseball bats which don’t kill anyone either.
That being the case, you should remove the following from your list.
Smoking
Alcohol
Suicide
Motor vehicle accidents
Prescription Drug Overdoses
Illegal Drug Overdoses
Heroin Overdoses
Cocaine Overdoses
Drowning
Choking
Bicycle Accidents
ATV Accidents
Ladder Falls
Terrorist Attacks
High School and College Football Injuries
Vending Machines
Shark Attacks
Marijuana Overdoses
Nuclear Power Plant Leaks
Among others.
No. You could complain about a chart that included things (nouns) that could be used for other things as causes of death, but our chart doesn’t include any of that. I have a few exceptions in the chart (bees come to mind) as everyone understands bees to mean bee stings. A bee can’t sit on a person and crush them or anything.
In other words, if our chart used the word “water” instead of “drowning,” you could make the argument that firearms should be included in the chart. But water, like firearms, have many other good uses other than drowning people.
Or if our chart used the word “cars” instead of “motor vehicle accidents,” you could make the argument that firearms should be included in the chart. But cars, like firearms, have many other good uses other than killing people in accidents.
Or if our chart used the words “prescription drugs” instead of “prescription drug overdoses,” you could make the argument that firearms should be included in the chart. But prescription drugs, like firearms, have many other good uses other than causing overdoses.
Or if our chart used the word “bicycles” instead of “bicycle accidents,” you could make the argument that firearms should be included in the chart. But bicycles, like firearms, have many other uses good other than being involved in fatal accidents.
Or if our chart used the word “ladders” instead of “ladder falls,” you could make the argument that firearms should be included in the chart. But ladders, like firearms, have many other good uses other than being involved in deaths from falling.
I think what you really mean is to add sections for homicide and one for homicide by firearm and one for firearm accidents. Yes?
Anyway, I’ll add those 3 new ones. I’m interested in seeing where they fall. Staff researching now.
LOL
Whatever you say Nick.
If you want to add firearm accidents and also straight up murder, your call. But death is death, the means of death can be getting shot with a gun or drowning from someone holding your head underwater.
Done: http://www.nachi.org/deaths.htm
All 3 added: Homicides, Firearm Homicides, and Firearm Accidents
Good?
Exactly my point. We don’t want to blame guns or water for murders. That would be silly.
Guns and water don’t murder.
Good.
Wow,
So according to statistics, Radon gas kills more people than firearm homicides.
Who knew?
The Radon death stats cannot be proven. Only guessed at and they are mostly from smokers.
That is a very important stat.
So the “estimated” yearly number of deaths actually caused by radon is 2,100, not 21,000. ??
Yes, congratulations you can do third grade math.
