How can an inspector be sure??

Is that box of the type required for the fan?

Joe,

You are not supposed to swing from the fan while testing. icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

When I am somewhere, like an interior room or rear porch (for the ceiling fan example), I list what I saw there, with this comment being my standard ceiling fan comment.

ceiling fan (we do not know if the ceiling fan is mounted to a proper ceiling fan box);

Just a click away as I list what is there that I looked at.

It looks like the box held it is still connected to the fan. I looked at Lowes and Home Depot and made my self familiar with boxes that are made for fans mounting and judge if the installation looks strong enough (Is the box mounted on a 2x4 or a 2x6 or just screwed to the side of the roof truss with a few drywall screws). You might be able to tell from the attic

What is your opinion of the new non-metal PF boxes (nail-on J-boxes)?

I thing they are crap but they are UL listed.
