I’ve only seen one that was converted into a guest bedroom on an acreage property. Frankly, it seemed to be working well for that function. But I disclaimed that this was a repurposing of a container for a purpose that it was never intended for and I can only comment on the limited visible features.

I’ve considered one or two containers for remote cabins purely for security purposes. Thinking that it would be a little more difficult to break into.

Insulation and moisture control has always seemed like an issue to me.

As for inspections, I’ve not had the opportunity but it does seem a little problematic.

How do you determine if the reinforcement installed in the openings is sufficient, as a HI not being a structural engineer. And if the walls have been finished out you’ll have a tough time determining if the condensation issues have been dealt with correctly.

I’m not sure I would want to take on an inspection for one.

I so much agree with you. Look up “shipping container rain”.

The only one I inspected looked very techy and cool, but was full of lots of concerns relative to energy efficiency and indoor air quality. All windows were stationary, significant air leakage where containers were united… One should focus on the details of indoor air quality and building envelope integrity when inspecting this type of construction.
