Cork Floor/Walls

Had to do a post tear out inspection for a client. The reason is too much to explain here and not relevant, but I’m curious about the cork insulation.

This building had 2 inches of cork on top of the slab and the finish flooring was affixed to the cork. The walls and ceiling also had cork installed on the inside of the joists (not between the joists) and the wall finished was affixed to the cork. The building was originally constructed in 1940 and had at least 3 additions/remodels that are known.

Has anyone seen this type of cork insulation used in is manner or have any history on cork insulation? Wouldn’t it have been quite expensive?

I’ve never seen it but it exists:

Seen cork on concrete roof decking when pitch asphalt was used.
Seen finished cork floors in a homes and condos.

never seen this either. does the cork contain asbestos?

No asbestos involved. Some sort of a glue to bind it together and a rubber adhesive on the top and bottom.
