Eric mentioned mobile homes, and that is the majority of the crawl spaces here. I don’t fit past most of the steel I beams just inside the entry way, but I always get wherever I can.

In crawl spaces and attics, go everywhere you can get yourself into, because that is the job.

I don’t use Tyvek all the time but have bought a box of them on occasion and I get them at Graingers Supply. Paid about 36 dollars for a box. Don’t remember how many is in a box but it was reasonable I thought at the time.

Gents,

With approximately 75-80% of the homes I inspect having crawlspaces, I have "entered" all but 2. One was completely under water due to the area getting 6 inches of rain the day before and the other was so infested with brown fleas and ticks (5 dogs used the same space as their sleeping quarters) that I refused to go in. However I still inspected what I could by edging along the perimeter of the house and peering underneath.

One would be amazed with some of the craziness and shoddy plumbing and original construction techniques found in "the dark".

If you are not crawling the spaces, you ain't inspectin>

Hi. Justin;

You might consider to move to Maine where there is hardly any crawl spaces to inspect. Other than some camps, there are basements everywhere. Now that is nice and easy.

I use the North 76008A respirator. It has a polycarbonate full face shield but you will want to get the disposable covers for it anyway. Use the high-quality filters that will stop pesticides, spores etc. Only way I will go into a crawl space which btw are about 95% of the homes in the Portland, Oregon area. Don’t skimp on protecting yourself. Again, if you do crawls get a good full face respirator and high-quality filters. You can find them on ebay at a reasonable price. Just my two cents worth.
