I’ve seen several roofs with these dark spots on them. Some of the dark markings extend down from a chimney or other vent pipes on a roof. Some are narrow and some are wider. It’s almost black in color. I wish I had a picture to share! What causes this?

i’ve seen these stains as well. usualy it’s under a hard wood tree that supports a particular type of algea/fungus. not sure of the name but it is cleanable. other times it was a rust line from a nail pop or antena anchor bolt.
