Did any of you get that REAL ID thingie yet?

I just found out about it.

Check your driver’s license. If it has a gold or black star on the top right, you already have one.

Nope. If you have a passport you won’t need it to travel.

Really? The Bill was enacted into law in 2005! I think was first supposed to go into effect in 2021 but due to Covid it was extended. Many states have been doing it for years when you renew your license.
You can also use your passport to fly or go into federal buildings, etc. I got mine back in March.

Got mine the last time I renewed my DL. I had to take 4 different official documents to get it.

I have CLEAR. Is that enough?

So you have a passport then you do not need Real ID.

Interesting! I had it on my previous license for 10 years, and my just renewed license in Jan this year. No documents ever.

You just need your passport. I waited until my DL needed to be renewed and I got mine, it just happen to be a month before I needed it.

So you need your passport to fly domestically? Do they stamp it each time or just look at it?

Got mine about three years ago when I renewed my drivers license.

It could be that once you have it you no longer need to prove you are you. :man_shrugging:

required documentation to get real ID when renewing drivers license in ohio - Google Search

To get a REAL ID when renewing your Ohio driver’s license, you’ll need to provide proof of your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number (SSN), legal presence in the US, and Ohio residency. You’ll also need to provide two documents proving your Ohio street address from different sources, listed on the Ohio BMV’s Acceptable Document List.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

Required Documentation:

  • Proof of Full Legal Name: This can be a birth certificate, passport, or other acceptable document.
  • Proof of Date of Birth: A birth certificate or passport is generally acceptable.
  • Proof of Social Security Number (SSN): A Social Security card is the most common form of proof.
  • Proof of Legal Presence in the US: A birth certificate, passport, or other acceptable document proving your citizenship or legal resident status.
  • Proof of Ohio Street Address (Two documents from different sources): Acceptable documents include utility bills, bank statements, or other documents listed on the Ohio BMV’s Acceptable Document List.
  • Proof of Name Change (if applicable): If your name has changed, you’ll need to provide documentation, such as a marriage certificate or court order.

Remember, Georgia is an unlicensed state when it come to home inspecting. Probably slacking on the Real ID too…

I’ll get it when I renew my driver’s license when it expires. It’s funny to see people on the news who can’t get appointments to get Real ID and are panicking like they just announced this last week. Not sure why you wouldn’t already have a passport anyway.

Same here.

BTW…

Had it for 2 years

I got mine in March of 2018. At that time, they were going to start requiring them in 2020 to fly.

When was the last time you renewed your driver’s license Nick?

Being a Commercial Driver’s License holder myself, I have to renew it every 4 years. The last one was in 2022 and it has a black star on the top right…
