Does anyone know what this flomatic "valve" is?

Is anyone familiar with this flowmatic valve? I think it is a valve, as that is what most flomatic devices are. Unfortunately, the model is not written on the tag. The device is located on the water line’s supply side before entering the pressure tank. It also has some time of pressure relief system (air or water?). I guess the more important question is “what is its purpose?”
Thanks

Looks like an air release valve.

Ok thanks. I was going to ask why it was necessary but connected the dots that since this place used to be more of a camp, it is installed because the lines used to get drained for the winter. It helps relieve any air that is in the water line after being drained- am I correct?
Thanks

Here is a pretty good article. The source of the air may be what you described or maybe something else.

Thanks Brian. After reading that article, I am surprised I do not see more air vents.
