Does anyone use InspectIt ReportPlus by AHIT? I am thinking about buying into the pay per use plan just to test it out.

I have been using Reportplus for several years now and I am very pleased with it. It is a very versatile program and you can set up your report the way you like it. You should be comfortable with the computer though as this is probably not the best program for someone who is computer illiterate. Follow the manual carefully and back up often so if something does happen you will not loose the text and changes you have created.

Thanks, David. I am fairly computer literate (understand macros and can do moderate HTML), so that shouldn’t be a problem. Does the program come with any preloaded comments and so forth? Even if it doesn’t, the price seems pretty reasonable.

The program is actually a Word template, which means you can use all the Word features such as spell check etc. I have translated it into French and am able to use the French spell check. It comes with a library of observations, descriptions and limitations. You can get started right away doing reports and change the comments to suit your style and region as you go along. I use graphics from Carson and Dunlop and digital photos. To email it to my clients I use Adobe Acrobat which compresses it and you can install a password so the report cannot be altered. In the email to my clients I include a link to Adobe where they can get the free Adobe Reader if it is not already installed on their computer. I deliver about 95% of my reports by email now.

Yeah, I definitely believe the way to go is digital. Paper reports are a headache and waste of money, unless the client doesn’t have a computer. Thanks for the info! I think I’ll give it a try. Do you also you the Palm software?

BTW, I found a company to that prints logos and such onto USB memory sticks. You can get the 64MB ones for about $10 each, printed and delivered. Just thinking about ordering a few to hand out to Agents to use around the office. It's something that probable would not get thrown in the trash. What do you think? (Just brought it up 'cause you mentioned digital reports)

I haven’t’t tried the palm yet, I’m thinking about it. I have some reservations, I guess I’m worried about losing my notes from a crash, I’ve never lost my hand written ones. Also the weather is pretty extreme here and I wonder how the palm would work out in a snow storm, below zero or the rain? I also have to look into how easy it would be to enter notes if something is out of the ordinary and not covered by any previous stored remarks.

I'd like to hear from someone who does use a palm out in the field!

I like your marketing idea but I don't market to agents any more. I'm a little too thorough for most agents and usually only get recommended when they are worried that there is a problem with a property. Only about 10% of my work comes from agent referrals. In the current litigation climate in this area every one is extremely careful with conflict of interest issues. Much of the inspector-agent relationships and ways of doing business I read about on the bulletin board would not be looked on favorably here. The real estate board here recommends that agents give their clients a list of at least four inspectors to choose from.

I have been using it since day one. The use of the palm has been a great improvement. I find it to be most useful on reports that will be e-mailed later.
