A few months ago I did a house custom built for a pair of [insert politically correct term here for midgets/little people]. I’m 6’4" and the ceilings there were about 5’9", etc. Yesterday, however, I had a perfectly normal (yeah, right) house except that one door had been framed to about six feet. I know about habitable quarters needing minimum ceiling height. How about door height?

That is pretty strange. Was the ceiling too low to accomodate a higher door?

I am not sure about the door height being code, although around here you can have doors special cut to any size, height or width.

Anyone care to take a look in the residential code per Michael's suggestion?

2000 International residential code


says 6ft8in min, but this is listed


under stair height. Hope this helps. I have a condense version.
