It’s an “overflow”.


When the trap backs up, keeps the crud from "overflowing" into the sink. ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Kevin is correct, the AAV would be on the other side of the trap.

Hi. to you all.


I believe this is another homeowner re-hab, where a mechanical vent was installed and is legal in most states for re-hab work, but I still recommend that a licensed plumber investigate the installation.
