A clogged condensate drain line.

Here, a shutoff switch is required, and an overflow drain line which terminates in plain sight.

If your referring to the over flow catch pan, detached and riding below the horizontal mounted FAU and or evaporator components, there should be no water in the pan. You’ve got some sort of blockage in the coil, primary and or secondary condensation drainage system. That over flow catch pan system should also have its own independent drain line running to the exterior of the structure with discharge above a window and or patio door, allowing you to be notified of a problem in the attic. Refer to an independent licensed HVAC Contractor for further inspection/ service as needed to ensure systems integrity prior to close of escrow. icon_idea.gif

Local jurisdictions may vary. Ours often terminate in the garage, right above the car window, thus the local wording, "somewhere in plain sight".
