I’m looking at replacing three basement windows that are not egress compliant. They are currently side sliders 26"hx33"w, and when open only give half that space. The rough opening in the cement is about 29hx36w. I think I found some casement windows that will just fit that opening, and give in excess of the 5.7 sq ft opening requirement. Any reason that won’t work?
Next question: Window sill is actually about 52" from the floor. Can I install a permanent anchored 8" step, and meet the requirement for 44" above the floor? This is a poured cement foundation so I am limited as to what I can do.
