What was the large cable feeding with the ungrounded conductors with those big splices covered in tape and the bare conductor spliced with a spilt bolt?

I am going to venture a guess that this is not correct. What gauge wire was the service entrance cable?

Maybe William can post some more photo’s.

Looks like the main service is spliced and headed back out again. If so, would those splices be proper?

They make hinged junction boxes all day every day, as long as the latch is functional.

Main service is not spliced. Current service drop/meter on the outside of the garage with 200A panel on the inside of the garage.
