#12 gauge wire nutted together.
This seems excessive. The receptacles even seemed to be pushed out from the box because of the wiring. Any comments would be appreciated.

According to the 2002 NEC it could be:
314.16B 18cu.in. box too small for 3 12/2 Romex
314.16B1 Number and size of conductors exiting box
Either way, an overstuffed box is a no-go according to code check
It makes you wonder what else went on in the branch wiring....and elsewhere for that matter!
Are you going to call it out?

If those are Carlon brand plastic boxes, I do believe they place a reference in the back of the box as to how many, of what size wires it is allowed to use according to the NEC.
