Exposed Nail

Pete, apparently the US Navy hasn’t either. My son in Law- in the Sea-Bees- spent 6 months in 2010 building 30’ x 30’ wood tent platforms in Afghanistan. They had to use hammer and nails and carry the nails in their pants pickets. Couldn’t use a nail gun or nail bags.

I’ve got some of rusted nails showing through plywood and some darkening of sheathing around the nail. Will that work?

So I guess I promised to share so here we go.
If you have ever framed with I-Joist you know that when you put a double together to make a beam that you need to fill the void. You rip a 2X10 down to fit eh web and then use a sheet of 7/16 to fill it completly. I was doing this on a second floor on day and was walking along stapling with a 2" staple. One of the guys asked me a question and so I glanced up at him. The stapler touched my foot so I jerked a little and the gun went off. Shot a staple just behind the steel toe right through the pinky toe and into the joist. Because I jerked it shot again and landed a second one right behind it. Holy crap did that hurt. I was able to pull the staples out of the wood fairly easily but getting them out of my foot and boot was a different story. I pulled out the trusty cats paw and dug it under the first staple. Had to pry against the steel toe to get it out. The second one hurt alot more as it went through bone and into the sole of the boot. I passed out from the pain still sitting on the floor joist on the second floor. When I came too, my apprentice was standing on a ladder beside me pulling the staple and holding me from falling off. He said I was snoring and he could not wake me up. I could here the ambulance on its way that he had called cause he freaked out. Had to pay them $575.00 just for showing up!! I went to the truck got a few bandages and went back to work. That was a long day of hobblin around.
Another story from the carpenter wars! :
We were building a garage one morning. The way this one was going up was they dug a 4’ trench and installed footing. You build 16’ walls and they back fill the bottom portion leaving 12’ walls above grade. As my guys were nailing the walls together my lead hand asked if I could give him a hand straighting a 2X6 stud so it would be nailed square. I went over and he handed me the gun. At first he tried to push it into place and it would not work. He then got the idea to stand in the trench and push with his foot. He was pushing with all he had and finally got it. I quikly nailed the stud in place and also glanced one off and hit him square in the nuts. The nail stuck in cause he was only 2 feet away. Once I picked my self up off the ground from laughing so hard and wiping away the tears I had to pull the nail out. I was still laughing when I pulled it and gave it a coulple of shakes by mistake. I took him to the hospital to get checked out as it is a vital component. The doctor and nurses were asking how it happened and I had to leave cause I couldn’t stop laughing. I even had the doctor laughing. He has a couple of kids now so I know he’s alright. After you spend a few years framing, finishing, renovating… you have stories.
Love your story Kenton, I need a good laugh once in a while.:mrgreen:

Ok I got you beat how about a nail all the way through my hand horizontal. Right under all the tendon cords. OUCH!!! I pulled the nail back out with my other hand double OUCH!!!

I shot through my index finger and my middle finger at the same time. Had to have that one pulled out by the doc. I did try but it would not budge. I had to hacksaw a guy off a 2x4 once. He was holding a short block and nailed it to the wall but the second one went through the back of his hand and into the block.
Am I winning yet??:mrgreen::mrgreen:
I’ve got many many more!!

Yes that’s what I’m looking for

You have to tell a story first.:wink:

Lol I only have helicopter maintenance stories

So, how many died and who did you blame it on??
JK

I am starting to see why you went into Home Inspection Greg.
I have fallen off my ladder once but no other major injuries since this.
All the major ones I received are on Construction sites only.

i’ve been in the trade 26 years. You see and do a lot of damage over that time. I framed for most of it so the danger level goes way up.

Worst I heard was with my friend who worked for a Roofing Company over 10 years back. The metal sheet went off the end of the roof and took the workers head right off. Needless to say my friend did not work for this company again. He would not tell me anymore than this as it makes him sick.
