purchased the extech flammable gas detector and used it for first time today. went over 1000 ppm right at the valve above floor where gas line for stove hooks up. but, as i moved away from valve , quickly went down to zero. do all valves leak some, i know there should be some clearence for valve to be able to move. this was a favor for a family member, they had purchased new stove and had to change lines. should there be concern for valve?

You’re talking combustible gas here. Couldn’t you smell it?

Did you spray soapy water on the valve?

Hi tech gizmos can give false reading especially if your not used to them. Your nose and soapy water won't lie to you.
