Fascia Flashing

Hi are Fascia and Flashing the same? If not please explain. I’m looking at illustrations and they look the same to be. or am I missing something?

No they aren’t the same, however many times the fascia is wrapped in aluminum or vinyl and that can be considered flashing.

That’s a drip edge, but one can also consider it to be flashing.

the fascia is the actual trim board itself at the rake or edge of a roof system, What they have marked as flashing in that illustration is the drip edge under the shingles and over the edge of the fascia.

“Flashing” is a VERY broad term as it comes in many shapes and sizes. Fascia is really an architectural term describing an area. You’ll often hear term, “Fascia Board,” which means a board to make up the fascia. You could have metal fascia, plastic fascia, wood fascia, etc.

And is used in many ways. Each type of flashing typically has a specific name and purpose.

Although technically a drip edge is a type of flashing, if it’s on a rake edge of a gable, it’s called a drip edge. If it were at the top of a shed roof, then it would be referred to as flashing. So the illustration is misleading.
